History:
I graduated in 1999 from Illinois State University in Normal, IL with a degree in General Art. My passion from the start of college gravitated towards oil painting. After drawing and painting my entire life, the flexibility of oils seemed to be the best medium for me.
Currently:
Rather than capture a snapshot in time, I try to show objects and notions that are different than what humans can see or imagine, while still maintaining recognizable, earthly features. I feel my paintings can remain fresh and interesting each time the viewer examines the canvas for different combinations of shapes and colors.
Each painting leads me down different paths and I work those ideas until I reach what I consider an end; using techniques and methods I have learned through experimenting and objective work. Experimenting on each canvas can take courage, but the lessons learned can show a progression of an original, growing universe. An interesting painting should not hide the imperfect process of the creation, but embrace the process and even welcome it.
The need to make art and paintings comes from an unknown feeling of necessity I have had my entire life. I would like my art and style to be recognized as my own original creation, without hesitation from any viewer. I try to achieve this through originality, exploring, and consistent work.
